Pearl Rocks Molly Malone’s

Jim Wilson and Pearl

I had the opportunity to see Pearl at Molly Malone’s in the Fairfax district tonight, and I have to say, it was an incredible show.

I’m currently planning a longer piece about guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Jim Wilson, so I brought my camera along to cover the event. I’m posting here what I call #RawkPortraits, a special photo art style that I developed to showcase artists in their element. Each image is created first with my Nikon camera, then post-processed using Photoshop and several other apps; a style workflow that I have developed over the past few years.

Pearl

Pearl is the name of the band, as well as its frontwoman. Pearl’s style is Southern-fried, a la Black Crowes, and her repertoire is a good mix of ballads and ragers. With songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Jim Wilson at her side, along with the rest of the stellar band, Pearl is pretty unstoppable.

One of my favorite moments of the show was when Jim and Pearl harmonized on Jim’s song, “Let it Go,” a tune that he originally recorded with Daniel Lanois accompanying on pedal steel. Buy the song on iTunes here: https://music.apple.com/bs/album/three-headed-dog-single/250387962

Jim Wilson

Jim is in several bands, and is also a prolific solo artist. I came to know him through his work as bassist for Daniel Lanois’ band, Heavy Sun. Heavy Sun is currently doing a residency at Zebulon in Atwater Village, playing every Tuesday night. I’ll be there this coming Tuesday to catch pics of Heavy Sun in action, so stay tuned.
